Dr. Eric Grigsby, MD, MBA
Dr. Eric Grigsby, MD, MBA has devoted his life to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain. He has an academic background as a researcher and teacher, and has devoted the last 25 years to patient care, clinical research, and innovation to his practice, The Napa Pain Institute, which he founded in 1992. As an entrepreneur and businessman, Dr. Grigsby has played a seminal role in the development of several technologies used by clinicians every day in the field of Pain Management.
Dr. Grigsby attended elementary and secondary school in his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Economics from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. His interest in Pain Management was formed before Medical School, while working with severely disabled children at Boston Children’s Hospital in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Grigsby worked with children with severe spinal deformities, cerebral palsy, and other disabling orthopedic conditions. While impressed with the orthopedic advances, he was distressed by the persistent pain and suffering apparent in these young patients and became determined to address it.
After graduating from Boston University Medical School in 1984, Dr. Grigsby trained in General Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Pain Management at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was then invited to join the Medical Staff and teach at Mayo Medical School. The Dean of the University of California at Davis Medical Center then invited Dr. Grigsby to establish their first Pain Management Center, where he served as Founding Medical Director until 1992.
